Our hearts were broken as we said our final cheers to Donald Vincent Malcolm, son of Mary and the late George Malcolm, on June 10, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Don was a jack of all trades, lover of fine whiskey, the Boston Bruins, Stephen King, hot summer night bonfires, and great laughs with his family and friends. Family meant everything to Don. From snuggles with Teegan to watching videos of Quinn and Sunday visits and dinners with his mother. Don made friends wherever he went - Brian and Gerry were two of the best. He looked forward to his visits from Dean, always reminiscing about their childhood antics. Don was a longtime employee of Rona, and when he took sick, Rona went above and beyond for him and for that, we are forever grateful. Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and their two daughters, Jennifer (Chris Brake) and Heather (Kyle Greaves); mother, Mary; brothers, Lawrence (Nancy), Robert (Sheila) and Gerard (Beth); his sister, Laurentia (Scott MacPherson); sisters-in-law, Susanne (David Donovan), Jean McLeod (Bruce) and Sandy (Gerry) Delaney; many nieces and nephews, but most of all his pride and joy granddaughters, Teegan and Quinn. Predeceased by his hero, his father, George Malcolm, and mother-in-law, Gitta McLeod and father-in-law Arthur McLeod. Visitation for Don will be held on Friday, June 15 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Chant’s Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A Celebration of his Life will take place immediately following in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Donald asked that donations be made to the Heart and Lung Wellness Centre, 200 Churchill Drive, Membertou. Messages and memorials can be directed to www.chantfuneralhome.ca. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home.
