Carol Ann Van Westen

Van Westen, Carol Ann (Smith) – 69, of New Glasgow, passed away on March 17, 2018. Born in Halifax, she was the beloved wife of Peter Van Westen, also of New Glasgow, and daughter of the late Mary Ann (Paquet) and Commander Wilfrid Smith. Carol Ann and Peter completely restored the Pictou Lodge Resort and were Owner/operators for over 25 years. During those years, Carol Ann and Peter were actively involved in the boating community. After completing their time at the lodge they remained residents of Pictou County. They then moved to Abercrombie and became avid golfers. Carol Ann and Peter spent the winters with their close friends in Lakewood Village in Florida. Carol Ann expressed her love of animals by joining and working with the CARMA organization. Carol Ann is survived by her husband Peter, her sister Janet Johnston (Smith) and her loving family. Visitation will be held at McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, from 11AM to Noon on Saturday, March 24, followed by Mass at 12:30 at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church in Pictou.
