YARMOUTH, N.S. – A motorcyclist was charged with stunting after being clocked travelling more than twice the posted speed limit in Wedgeport, Yarmouth County.

According to a media release, at 6:30 p.m. on April 15, a member of Yarmouth Rural RCMP observed a motorcycle driving at a high rate of speed on Highway 334.

“The motorcycle was stopped by police for driving 128 km/h in a 60 km/h zone – 68 km/hr over the limit,” the release reads.

The 37-year-old man from Toronto, Ontario, was charged for Stunting under the Provincial Motor Vehicle Act. The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50, the driver's licence was suspended immediately and the motorcycle was seized and impounded.

A charge of stunting, as opposed to speeding, kicks in when a driver is traveling 50 km or more over the posted speed limit, this newspaper was previously told by the RCMP.

The Nova Scotia RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well. If you see someone driving unsafely on our roads, report it by calling RCMP at 800-803-RCMP (7267) or 911.
