An Antigonish man faces two attempted murder charges related to an incident Wednesday morning (July 25) at a town residence.

In an afternoon press release, the Nova Scotia RCMP said, at 8:30 a.m., Antigonish District RCMP responded to a 911 call of a woman who had been injured, stating that a man tried to stab her and a three-year-old child.

At the time of the call, the woman was at a neighbour's home, with the child, and the man was still inside the house at 87 Brookland Street.

When police responded, they located the woman and the child, who were both injuried. They were taken by ambulance to St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish.

Both are expected to recover.

The man, who was located a short time later outside the home, was arrested, without incident.

He is expected to appear in Antigonish Provincial Court tomorrow (July 26).

The RCMP said they continue to examine the scene, and will be in the area for several hours.

Barricades have been set up in the area to limit public access.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
