KENTVILLE, NS - A 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser burst into flames Aug. 1 in the parking lot of the Kentville Foodland.

The car’s owner, Devin Bryan, 18, from Greenwich, said he was driving the car with his sister, Jessie Bryan, 19, and friend Caleb Hill, 16, and had just began pulling into the Foodland parking lot at 311 Cornwallis St. to get drinks when they noticed smoke coming from the front of the car.

“I just pulled in the parking lot when smoke started rolling in from the front of the car,” said Bryan.

Hill added that after exiting the car and running to safety in the doorway of the Foodland, the flames begin to erupt from the hood of the car. He added that he heard a loud bang as the flames continued.

While hard to say for sure, as he was still shaken from the experience, Bryan said that about 30 seconds to two minutes elapsed between the time be pulled into the parking lot to the time the car went up in flames.

Bryan added that he’d just gotten the car back from a repair shop in New Minas two hours prior, where repairs were made on the car’s exhaust and gas line.
