NOVA SCOTIA – Shelley Morse has been elected vice-president of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation.

According to a release issued by the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, Morse was elected to the position July 13 at the organization’s 2018 Annual General Meeting in Edmonton, Alta.

“I am honoured to be elected as part of a collective voice for all teachers in Canada. I look forward to working with other teacher leaders across Canada in advocating for teachers, classrooms and public education,” said Morse in the release.

Morse recently retired from her job as vice-principal at Aldershot Elementary School, and also served as NSTU president during the 2013-2014 and 2015-2016 school years.

This is Morse’s third term as a CTF vice-president. She will serve a one-year term in her new position alongside three other vice-presidents who were also elected.

According to the release, Morse will serve on the organization’s executive and will “deal with key issues and resolutions that have an impact on public education, students and teachers, nationally and internationally.”

In addition to this new role, Morse will be working as a guidance counsellor at both Aldershot and Glooscap elementary schools.

According to the release, the CTF is a national alliance of various teaching organizations that collectively represent more than 250,000 Canadian teachers.
