A 67-year-old Yarmouth man lost his life on Friday, Oct. 27, after attempting to assist others.
At 4:26 p.m. the Yarmouth District RCMP received a 911 call relating to a male in distress who had been pulled out of the water at the end of William Allen Road in Melbourne, Yarmouth County.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the 67-year-old Yarmouth County man was attempting to assist another stranded boat, however his boat encountered mechanical problems near the shoreline and capsized while enroute.
The man was transported by EHS to Yarmouth Regional Hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
Members of the Lake Vaughn Volunteer Fire Department were able to rescue the original boaters. They were said to have been digging clams prior to the incident.
The man’s name had not been released at the time of this posting.
