Man arrested in death of woman in Gardiner Mines

Cape Breton Regional Police say the man and woman knew each other

A Cape Breton Regional Police vehicle is stationed outside a house at 87 Obrien St. in Gardiner Mines on Tuesday afternoon. A woman was found dead inside the home at noontime Tuesday, and a man, who was at the scene when police arrived, has been arrested and taken into custody.

GARDINER MINES — A man is custody after a woman was found dead inside a home on O’Brien Street in Gardiner Mines.

Cape Breton Regional Police officers responded to a 911 call for assistance at noontime.

According to a news release issued at 3:20 p.m., police found a woman dead in the home. A male was also inside the home at the time and was arrested at the scene.

Police believe the victim and suspect are known to each other. The woman’s name isn’t being released until her family has been notified.

The major crime unit along with the forensic identification unit of the regional police are leading the investigation.

There is no word on any possible charges at this time.
