Fire diverts New York-Europe flight to Halifax

More than 300 people had a surprise stop in Halifax last night. 

Just after 9:20 p.m. Aug. 5,   RCMP responded to a call regarding a fire onboard United Airlines Flight 999 from New York to Europe. 

According to a police media release, a fire was extinguished by crew using a fire extinguisher on board the aircraft.

There were 293 passengers and 13 crew members and no one was injured as a result of the fire.

In addition to police, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to Halifax Stanfield International Airport to meet the crew.
