Police say a 44-year-old man is facing charges after a woman was violently assaulted inside a car on Tuesday night.
Halifax Regional Police say officers were called to an assault in progress inside a vehicle in the area of Dublin and Almon streets around 7:30 p.m.
Police say the man and woman knew each other and several bystanders came to the woman’s aid.
The victim got out of the vehicle. The man drove off, but was later located and arrested in the area of St. Paul’s Street.
Halifax Regional Police Const. Pierre Bourdages described the attack as a “serious and violent assault.”
The woman escaped with only minor injuries, he added.
When an officer tried to arrest the man, Bourdages said he was punched, as the accused “actively resisted.”
The officer wasn’t hurt.
The 44-year-old is due in court Wednesday to face charges of assault, assaulting police and resisting arrest.
