Red paint markings were all over a section of Main Street in Glace Bay on Saturday, following a Cape Breton Regional Police Service investigation of a traffic accident that sent two children to Halifax hospital. Police are now reporting the two children injured in a motor-vehicle accident Friday night are brother and sister..
Both were airlifted to Halifax hospital after they were initially rushed to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
Cape Breton Regional Police say the eight-year-old boy is in critical condition, while his 11-year-old sister is in serious condition.
Police responded to the scene near 696 Main St. at around 10 p.m.
Sgt. Ken O’Neill of the Cape Breton Regional Police Service said the forensic identification team and the traffic safety unit were still on the scene Saturday afternoon.
O’Neill said it is suspected that at least one of the children had been driving a bicycle near a crosswalk.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor, he said.
