July 23: Dry conditions in western Nova Scotia, 'high risk' of fire in Hants

Published on July 23, 2014

Today's fire conditions for western Nova Scotia counties range from moderate to extremely high, with Hants County woods at the highest risk.

The  Department of Natural Resources' fire index map is updated each afternoon and shows "the potential level of wildfire intensity should one break out."

Camp and brush fires are not allowed after 8 a.m. during wildfire season.

The ratings for July 22 showed burning was allowed between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m., subject to municipal bylaws, in western Nova Scotia, but no brush or camp fires were allowed in Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Pictou counties.

Check the BurnSafe map at 2 p.m. daily for where and when fires are allowed.
