Codiac RCMP are searching in the Pinehurst subdivision area of north end Moncton looking for the suspect in the fatal shooting of three RCMP officers on Wednesday evening.

As of 6:30 a.m. Thursday, New Brunswick RCMP were still telling residents in the area to stay inside.

Const. Damien Theriault said people in the area are being urged to remain in their homes with the doors locked.

"Right now we are still actively searching for the suspect and we're urging people to stay inside in this and surrounding areas," Theriault said. "We're also asking motorists to stay away from the area."

RCMP are providing updates on their Twitter feed.

Theriault said officers responding to call at approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday were fatally shot by the suspect, believed to be 24-year-old Justin Bourque.

Two other officers were transported to Moncton City Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The hospital in Moncton remains closed to visitors, other than those with critically ill family members.

Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call 911. He is described as a young man wearing camoflage with long brown hair. He's believed to be carrying two military-style rifles with high-capacity magazines, a bow and a knife.

Premier Stephen McNeil and other political leaders have issued statements of condolences to the victims, and to the citizens of Moncton.
