One Burnside jail inmate in hospital, five others charges in alleged attempted murder

Halifax police say an inmate at the Central Nova Correctional Facility in Burnside is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed several times inside the provincial jail.

Police were called to the facility at 4:50 p.m. June 21 after receiving a call from correctional staff.

The 39-year-old victim was rushed to hospital by paramedics and his injuries are described as life threatening.

Five male inmates are now facing a variety of charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

All five men are due in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.
