A black bear that appeared on the back step of a Fern Drive Extension residence was shot and killed early Friday afternoon because it was deemed to be a threat to residents in the area.

“He was right in the playground area,” said Millbrook bylaw officer Dennis McLeod, who was called in June 20 to deal with the bear.

McLeod said the bear, estimated to be about two years old, weighed approximately 150 pounds.

The dead bear was transported to the Department of Natural Resources facility in Bible Hill for eventual disposal.
