An 18-year-old is facing theft charges after Halifax Regional Police say they were called to Mic Mac Mall Tuesday afternoon about a man with a gun.

At 12:34 p.m., police received a report of a man walking through the mall carrying a firearm on his belt. Multiple officers and a K-9 unit arrived at the mall and located the suspect outside the Winners Homesense store.

The man was found carrying a small knife in a holster, according to a release, as well as stolen property from the store.

He was arrested, and police said further investigation revealed no one had actually witnessed the man carrying a gun, no one was threatened and the knife was never removed from the holder.

Mic Mac Mall remained open, but police said the Homesense store was closed for a short period of time while officers investigated the scene.

Police say an 18-year-old man is facing charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen goods under $5,000.

He will appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.
