It’s time to bring out your creative side and support a good cause.
On Jan. 26, the 545 Privateer Air Cadets are holding a paint night at the Milton Hall as a fundraising effort.
Bridgewater’s Paint Paradise will supply a local artist to lead the group step-by-step, so participants can paint their very own masterpiece.
The ticket price of $35 includes a 16x20 canvas, all supplies, and the use of an easel and apron. The air cadets will provide bottled water and refreshments for attendees.  This event is for all ages as there is no bar on site.
For every ticket sold, $10 goes back to the air cadets to use for their upcoming projects. According to Capt. Katherine Gayton, commanding officer of the group, the air cadets are fundraising for a yet-to-be determined fun and educational trip in the spring, and to offset costs of squadron sweaters.
In addition, the air cadets are now working towards a region drill competition, the Aurora Cup, in April, which they won last year. This year, they will compete against Yarmouth, Greenwood, Kentville and Windsor squadrons, and if they win again, they will move on to a provincial competition to be held at the end of April in Halifax.
“This wasn't an option last year, so our cadets are really focused on winning the regional competition, which is made up of the Liverpool Kinsmen Club, Branch 038 Mersey Royal Canadian Legion and the Liverpool Lions Club,” Gayton said. “They also donate funds to the cadets’ extra-curricular activities annually, as well as provide locations for them to conduct optional training. Fundraising activities like the upcoming paint night help offset these costs.”
This year, the air cadets program has 26 cadets ranging from ages 12 to 18, coming from as far as Sable River, Caledonia and Bridgewater to train in Liverpool.
If you go: Paint Paradise at Milton Hall will be held on Jan. 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 168 Tupper St., Milton. Tickets are available online or by emailing  [email protected].
