HANTS COUNTY, N.S. – Nova Scotia Power crews are investigating after an outage impacting several communities in East and West Hants was reported on Aug. 7.
Affected communities include Noel, Burntcoat, Moose Brook, Walton, Bramber, Cheverie, Summerville, Centre Burlington, Scotch Village, Rawdon, Brooklyn, Avondale and more.
According to the utility’s website, there were over 3,200 customers affected as of 12:50 p.m.

UPDATE – According to David Rodenhiser, communications manager at Nova Scotia Power, the cause of the outage has been linked to a bird interfering with equipment at the substation in Upper Burlington.
“A bird unfortunately got into a place it shouldn’t have been,” Rodenhiser said. “It triggered a protective device that shut down the electricity.”
“The bird unfortunately did perish.”
Rodenhiser said there are people on scene working on the issue.
UPDATE 2 - Power has been restored to the affected areas.
