The Region of Queens Municipality held its regular council meeting July 11, and one of the topics up for discussion was the Retire to Liverpool website, www.retiretoliverpool.com.

Created by community resident Peter Ripple, his aim is to show that Queens is the perfect place for retirees to live.

Council also received an update about the Plant to Plate community gardening initiative.

Diana Johnson, municipal physical activity co-ordinator, said all plots at the community garden at 108 College St. are full, and there is demand for more gardening space and beds.

Plant to Plate is planning an event set to take place in Privateer Park in September, which will include The Amazing Food Race, a scavenger hunt, potato sack races, egg toss and taste testing.

Milton Canoe and Camera Club

It was a recommended that council approve a community recreation assistant program grant of $300 to the Milton Canoe and Camera Club.

The club has certified canoe instructors who teach canoe safety, Transport Canada regulations, reading weather conditions, and terminology and fundamental strokes.

Liverpool Regional High School track project

Another update provided at the meeting was the proposed track project for Liverpool Regional High School.

A previous presentation to council outlined the proposed project.

The information report says “An outdoor track would be beneficial to both current and prospective residents as it provides an additional open space and recreational facility that could be used in a variety of different ways by all ages.”

The council of the Region of Queens Municipality will have its next regular meeting July 25.
