Among the topics of discussion are cultural and ecological protection, recreation and tourism enhancement, and the ongoing community role. A presentation on the planned management approach for the area will start the session, along with an opportunity to ask questions for clarification.
Community members will also have an opportunity to talk with staff during breakout sessions following the presentation about the various topics. Information will be provided about concerns regarding ecological and cultural protection priorities, dune restoration and piping plovers, installation of basic washrooms to reduce human impacts to dunes, signage to meet educational and directional needs, waste management which includes a ‘pack in, pack out’ trial, enhancement of public beach access while protecting sensitive areas, addressing parking challenges, supporting public access to Spectacle Island Lighthouse, providing a local voice for decision making and creating an opportunity for shared stewardship.
The session will be held on July 25 from 6–8 p.m. at the West Queens Recreation Centre.
If you go: The West Queens Recreation Centre is located at 70 Riverhead Rd. in Port Mouton.
