KENTVILLE - Police say charges are pending from the raid of an alleged illegal marijuana dispensary, which came after two people became sick from pills police suspect were purchased there.

On April 10, Kentville police and paramedics were called to a home in the town after a 911 call reporting two people were in medical distress, possibly from an overdose.

Insp. Darryl Brown said the two men, aged 18 and 19, were taken to hospital to be checked out.

“It was stomach pains and they were somewhat groggy, and they felt they needed to go to (hospital),” Brown said.

Brown said police received information that the two took a product they had allegedly purchased from the dispensary on Highway 1 in Cambridge.

“It was suspected that whatever they had taken may have been purchased from a place called The Pot Shoppe,” Brown said.

He said the two men didn’t make a statement and didn’t want to provide any information after they were released from hospital.

“We followed up a week later, but they didn’t want to disclose anything to police about what had happened,” Brown said.

Last month, police obtained a warrant to search the building on Highway 1 where the pills, described in the warrant as 200 mg “weed pills,” were believed to have been purchased. The warrant also said that police suspected students from nearby Central Kings Rural High School were buying drugs at the same location.

Court documents indicate that various drugs, marijuana products and pot-laced edibles were seized in the raid, along with bags, a scale and debit sheets.

Police say charges of trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking are pending against one man.
