NEW MINAS – A pet owner who fled from a pet store after her dog bit the face of an employee has yet to come forward in connection with the incident.
A female employee was bit in the face by a dog at Paulmac’s Pets store in New Minas on May 19. Kings District RCMP responded to the incident at 7:35 p.m. and have referred the case to the Nova Scotia SPCA after conducting an investigation.
The dog’s owner fled the scene after the incident and has not been located since.
NS SPCS chief provincial inspector Joanne Landsburg confirmed the organization is investigating the incident and actively looking for the dog’s owner to come forward and share her side of the story. Once both sides have been heard, the organization will determine how to proceed.
“We’d like to get the owner’s side of what happened so we can conclude whether the bite was either a provoked or not-provoked type of attack,” said Landsburg, who confirmed the victim described the dog as a brown-coloured mastiff-type breed.
A social media post written by the employee’s mother asking for the public’s help in locating the owner has reached over 3,700 shares on Facebook alone.
“We are hoping to find any witnesses … or anyone who may know this dog and owner. Please share this post so we can find who is responsible for this,” the post reads.
RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Jennifer Clarke confirmed police will not be pursuing criminal charges in connection with the incident.
