MILL SECTION, N.S. — Motorists looking to take Chester Road are being rerouted due to a serious motor vehicle accident in Mill Section.

Firefighters, paramedics and RCMP officers were called out to the scene around 2:10 p.m. Aug. 24.

Deputy fire chief Paul Maynard, of the Hantsport Fire Department, said firefighters from Brooklyn, Hantsport, and Southwest Hants stations responded to the call and as of 6 p.m., were still on scene.

The accident involved a head-on collision between two vehicles on Highway 14.

“We had to perform extrication on both vehicles. There were three patients in total,” said Maynard.

RCMP confirmed at 6:15 p.m. that one person involved in the accident died. Details on the extent of the injuries sustained by the other people is unknown at this time, however, Life Flight landed at the Vaughan helipad and transported one of the patients to the QEII hospital.

According to the RCMP, Highway 14 is closed between Windsor and the Irving gasoline station in Vaughan. All traffic is being re-routed. Maynard confirmed that it’s expected the road will remain closed for several more hours.

“Highway 14 is going to be closed for a great length of time,” he said in a phone interview.
