PROSPECT – No one was injured but a house and attached garage have sustained significant damage after a late-night fire August 26.

Waterville and District Volunteer Fire Department media spokesperson and volunteer firefighter Kevin Ernest confirmed the Prospect Road structure fire was called in just before 10 p.m., and that the Waterville department responded immediately.

No one – pets or people – was injured in the fire, which burned heavily in the garage and reached the house as well.

The fire was already burning significantly as crews arrived, and mutual aid was received from Kentville, New Minas and Berwick volunteer departments.

“We responded to a call saying an attached garage was on fire.... and [the fire] did extend into the main part of the house too,” said Ernest.

Ernest also confirmed the home owners were present at the time the fire started but were to escape unharmed before it became more serious.

Fire crews remained at the scene until around 1 a.m.

“I can say the garage sustained serious damage,” said Ernest.

The incident remains under investigation as the fire marshal works to determine what caused the fire. The marshal was still on scene as of 11:30 a.m. Aug. 27. It is also not confirmed whether the buildings are total losses.
