TIVERTON – A Granville Ferry man is facing impaired driving charges after running a boat aground while allegedly impaired by alcohol.
Digby RCMP responded to a call at noon on August 27 indicating a fishing boat had run aground on rocks near Tiverton, on Digby County’s Long Island.
A ferry boat helped get the boat and its driver to shore before RCMP arrived at the scene.
An RCMP release alleges police arrived at the scene and noted signs indicating the boat’s 48-year-old driver was impaired by alcohol, and his ability to safely drive the boat was impaired as a result.
Police transported the man back to the detachment, where he provided breath samples. The release alleges he blew nearly two times the legal limit.
The man is now facing charges for impaired operating of a vessel, along with operating the boat with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.
He has been released from custody and will appear in Digby court to face the charges November 26.
