Daury left the garage at about 6 p.m. July 6. When he left, everything was normal. But, when he returned to his business on July 7 at about noon, he was shocked. When Daury went to the back of the building, he discovered a black, charred wheelbarrow.
“I’m not saying they tried to burn the garage down,” said Daury. “They definitely tried to burn the shingles in the wheelbarrow.”
The Queens District RCMP sent out a press release July 12, asking for the public’s assistance in identifying who was responsible for “setting alight a wheelbarrow full of shingles and tar paper and pushing it up against a garage and causing damage to the institution.”
“It appears to be a random act, possibly a passerby,” said Const. Rob James, with the Queens County RCMP detachment.
James said there’s no dollar value or estimate on the loss.
“I don’t think I have an enemy in the world,” said Daury, who is still trying to understand why someone would light a fire by his garage.
Daury said since the incident, he’s installed security cameras.
“It’s mind-boggling what it would have cost if this place would have burned down.”
