KENTVILLE, NS - It’s official: Kings North MLA John Lohr has announced he will throw his hat in the ring for the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative (PC) party leadership.
Lohr sent an email notification to media on Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. in which he stated the beginning of a new year often brings with it the exciting feeling of a fresh start with new challenges, adventures and chances to do things that make a difference.
“After many prayers, conversations with my wife Heather and discussions with our family, friends and Nova Scotians from across the province, I am announcing I will be seeking the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia,” Lohr stated in the email.
Lohr also sent out a tweet announcing his plan to run for the leadership. Both the email and tweet contained a link to a video outlining his vision and approach to leadership.

A news release issued at 10:30 a.m. states that Lohr’s campaign will focus on three pillars: supporting Nova Scotia’s people, supporting Nova Scotia’s economy and returning integrity to Nova Scotia’s government.
“I want to lead the PC Party and then the provincial government with a team of great MLA’s that focus on people, the economy and returning integrity to government,” Lohr stated in the news release.
Current PC party leader Jamie Baillie announced on Nov. 1 that he is stepping down, although he will remain as leader of the Official Opposition in the Nova Scotia Legislature until a new leader is chosen.

Lohr, who was first elected Kings North MLA in 2013 and re-elected in 2017, said in a Nov. 21 interview that he had been gauging support, weighing family circumstances and there were a lot of “puzzle pieces” to put together in making such a decision.
Lohr said Baillie has brought the party back from debt and has the PCs well poised to form the next government. The PCss currently have 17 MLAs.
