Committed assault, uttered death threat
Mark Spencer Leefe, 54, of Kentville, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for committing an assault and uttering a death threat.
Leefe was charged originally with using a weapon in committing an assault but pleaded guilty on June 5 to the lesser, included offence of assault. He also pleaded guilty to uttering a threat on June 5. The matters were adjourned to Sept. 4 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Leefe a suspended sentence with 13 months of reporting probation. The court imposed a two-year firearm prohibition against him and granted a secondary DNA order.
Leefe committed the offences in Kentville on March 26. A charge of possessing a weapon – a saw – for a purpose dangerous to the public peace was withdrawn on Sept. 4.
Fined for possessing knife
Frederick Stewart Davis, 31, of Mill Section, has been fined for possessing a weapon, a knife, for the purpose of committing an offence.
Davis pleaded guilty to the charge on Aug. 21 and the matter was adjourned to Aug. 31 for sentencing. Judge Christopher Manning fined Davis a total of $130.
Davis committed the offence in Windsor on June 30.
Failed to comply with SOIRA order
Evan Burton Gray, 29, address unknown, has been fined for failing to comply with a Sex Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA) order by failing to report the registration centre as required.
Gray pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 4. Judge Christopher Manning fined Gray a total of $390 and sentenced him to two months of probation.
Gray committed the offence in Windsor between Dec. 7, 2017, and Jan. 23, 2018.
Time deemed served, probation
Wade Russell Moriarity, 32, of Morden, has been sentenced to time deemed served and has been sentenced to probation for stealing property of a value not exceeding $5,000 from Canadian Tire, assault and possessing ammunition while he was prohibited from doing so.
Moriarity changed his pleas to guilty to the charges on Sept. 5. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Moriarity to three months in custody deemed served by time spent remanded in custody and sentenced him to 12 months of probation.
Moriarity committed the offences in Greenwood on Feb. 16, April 17 and April 22. A charge of assault was dismissed upon Moriarity entering into a peace bond recognizance. Charges of choking an individual with intent to enable himself to commit the indictable offence of assault, uttering a threat to burn an individual’s personal property, possessing a prohibited weapon – a butterfly knife – without holding the necessary licence, possessing a weapon – several large knives – for a purpose dangerous to the public peace and unlawfully possessing Oxycodone were dismissed on Sept. 5.
Probation, fine for committing public mischief
Ricky Wayne Beck, 55, of South Berwick, has been sentenced to probation and fined for committing public mischief by, with intent to mislead, causing a police officer to enter into an investigation by making a false statement accusing another individual of having committed an offence.
Beck changed his plea to guilty on Aug. 28 and the matter was adjourned to Sept. 5 for sentencing. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Beck a total of $200 and sentenced him to nine months of probation.
Beck committed the offence in South Berwick on May 29.
Conditional discharge for assault
Lydia Mae Leopold, 27, of Windsor, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault.
Leopold pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 4. Judge Christopher Manning handed Leopold a conditional discharge with nine months of probation.
Leopold committed the offence in Windsor on June 30.
Suspended sentence for assault
Robert Lorne Sherman, 32, of Windsor, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for committing an assault.
Sherman pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 4. Judge Christopher Manning handed Sherman a suspended sentence with nine months of probation and fined him $100 in victim surcharges.
Sherman committed the offence in Windsor on April 11. A charge of committing mischief by willfully damaging a bedroom door was withdrawn on Sept. 4.
Stole property, recognizance offences
Norman Harris Boutilier, 31, of Martock, has been fined and sentenced to time deemed served for possessing stolen property – a vehicle registration sticker - and two counts of failing to comply with his recognizance.
Boutilier pleaded guilty to the charges on Aug. 31. Judge Christopher Manning fined him a total of $130 for possessing a stolen registration sticker, sentenced him to one day in custody deemed served for one count of failing to comply with his recognizance and fined him a total of $260 for the second count of failing to comply with his recognizance.
Boutilier committed the offences in Windsor on March 25 and June 17 and in Martock on June 26. Three more counts of failing to comply with his recognizance were withdrawn on Aug. 31.
Probation offence
Randolph Christopher Toney, 29, of Cambridge, has been fined for failing to comply with probation by failing to abstain absolutely from the use, consumption or possession of alcohol or non-prescription drugs.
Toney changed his plea to guilty on July 5 and the matter was adjourned to Sept. 5 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Toney a total of $250.
Toney committed the offence in Berwick on Dec. 30, 2017.
Undertaking offence
Bradley Robert Veinot, 38, of New Minas, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for failing to comply with his undertaking.
Veinot changed his plea to guilty on Aug. 15 and the matter was adjourned for sentencing. On Sept. 6, Judge Claudine MacDonald handed Veinot a conditional discharge with six months of non-reporting probation and fined him $100 in victim surcharges.
Veinot committed the offence in White Rock between Dec. 1, 2017, and April 4, 2018.
