KENTVILLE, NS - A 25-year-old Kentville man facing charges following a March 1 altercation in the downtown remains in custody.
Steven Gerald Maynard is charged with aggravated assault and carrying a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace. Maynard was present in Kentville provincial court in custody on March 1. The Crown was opposed to his release. Maynard consented to being remanded in custody until March 5 for a bail hearing.
Kentville Police Service members were called to Webster Street shortly after 9 a.m. on March 1 to assist with a dispute involving three men. Chief Julia Cecchetto said in a news release that when police arrived, a 29-year-old male victim was located suffering from non-life-threatening knife wounds. He was transported to Valley Regional Hospital for treatment.
“The parties were known to each other and this was not a random act,” Cecchetto said.
Around 9:40 a.m. on March 1, several drops of blood were visible on the sidewalk between the Centre Square Tim Hortons and the nearby CIBC and officers could be seen gathering information in the area.
The 25-year-old suspect was found on Prospect Avenue. He was arrested and made an initial court appearance later in the day.
