KINGS COUNTY – It might be time to beef up that security system – or lack thereof – at the cottage.
RCMP are asking seasonal property owners to be on the alert following a string of break ins targeting empty dwellings in two regions, including Kings County.
Five complaints of break and enters into cottages and sheds from the Murphy’s Lake area in Kings County and New Russell in Lunenburg were received by RCMP for incidents that occurred between Feb. 25 and March 3.
RCMP are recommending owners of such properties to be even more cautious and to secure their property, store larger valuable items like ATV’s away from the property and that using video surveillance, trail cameras and alarms can all help deter criminal activity.
Even something as simple as the owner checking the property themselves more frequently can help.
RCMP are also asking owners and their neighbours to report and take notes on any suspicious activity, people and/or vehicles.
