There were also traffic accidents – two involving motorcycles, break-ins, and 44 people stopped for speeding. All told the RCMP handled 152 calls between Aug. 28 and Sept. 4.
Following are a few of the highlights:
-- August 29 at 9:12 a.m. at Middleton. Police received a complaint of damage where the complainant reported that someone cut the chain link fence at a business on Junction Road. There was no other activity related to the breach of the fence.
-- August 29 at 12:26 p.m. at Princedale. Police responded to a 911 single-vehicle motor vehicle collision involving a bear. Upon arrival police found the bear dead on the road. The vehicle was heavily damaged. EHS attended but the driver did not require medical attention.
-- August 29 at 7:53 p.m. at Nictaux. Police conducted a checkstop on Highway 10. Fifteen vehicles were checked with three receiving warnings. Police conducted three other checkstops throughout the week in Annapolis County.
-- August 30 at 4 p.m. at Clementsvale. Police were advised of a possible impaired driver on the Clementsport Road. A vehicle description and license plant number were provided to police. Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle and made a stop. They arrested a 37-year-old woman for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. She will appear in court at a later date.
-- August 30 at 4:28 p.m. at South Farmington. Police charged a 20-year-old woman with speeding on Highway 201. If found guilty she will pay a fine of $237.50. Police charged and/or warned 43 other motorists for speeding violations in the county during the week.
-- August 30 at 6:43 p.m. in Annapolis County. Police received a complaint of extortion over social media. A youth reported becoming engaged in an erotic Facebook chat with a person they believed to be their age. The complainant had sent intimate images of themself to the other party who in turn threatened to distribute the photos unless they received money. The complainant refused to pay and advised the other party that the police had been contacted. The Facebook profile disappeared shortly thereafter.
-- August 31 at 8:47 a.m. at Crossburn. Police received a report of a break-and-enter that occurred sometime in the previous week. The caller reported that the culprits had stolen some of the flooring and barn boards from one of their buildings. Nothing inside the building was taken besides the floorboards.
-- August 31 at 1:20 p.m. at Middleton. Police were called to a fire in a field north of the NSCC in Middleton. Police went to the scene and the fire was determined to be a controlled burn. There was nothing suspicious.
-- August 31 at 4:25 p.m. at Tupperville. Police were called to a single-vehicle crash on Highwauy 101 at Tupperville. A 52-year-old woman was operating a motorcycle amongst a group of motorcyclists when she lost control. The driver sustained injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance and then to Halifax hospital via Life Flight. The highway was closed while police conducted their investigation.
-- August 31 at 5:53 p.m. at Paradise. Police responded to a 911 motor vehicle collision. Police, EHS, and fire attended. A group of motorcycles were slowing down and a vehicle travelling with the bikes behind them was rear-ended by another vehicle pushing the first vehicle into the bikes. The two cars had to be towed. One bike ended up in the ditch. There were no injuries.
-- August 31 at 6:53 at Nictaux Falls. Police were called to a 911 motor vehicle crash involving a car and a tractor hauling hay. There was damage to the car but no injuries. The hay ended up all over the car and the road. The tractor, coming down the hill, hit a patch of sand and gravel causing it to jackknife spilling its load.
-- September 1 at 8:39 a.m. at Middleton. Police received a report of identity theft where the complainant’s name and address were used to create a wireless account with a telephone company. The complainant reported that there are more than $600 in outstanding bills on the account. Police told the complainant to contact the service provider and advise them of the identity theft.
-- September 1 at 1:19 p.m. at Waterloo Lake. Police received a complaint of a break-and-enter into a shed at a seasonal cottage. Police attended and took a statement. Numerous tools were stolen. Neighbourhood inquiries were conducted and photos were obtained. The investigation continues.
-- September 1 at 9:46 p.m. at Bridgetown. Police received a complaint of an intoxicated man at a bus stop in Bridgetown. The caller was afraid that he would stagger into traffic. Police attended and observed the person staggering. A 36-year-old man was arrested. Further investigation revealed that he was on conditions to not consume alcohol. The man will appear in court on this charge at a later date. He was released to family.
-- September 3 at 2:20 p.m. at Middleton. Police received a complaint of a theft of an ATV. The complainant advised that the garage at his cottage had been broken into and an ATV was taken. It is a 2003 yellow Honda 450 Foreman. Police have added the ATV as stolen in Canadian Police Information Centre database.
-- September 4 at 3:04 p.m. at Bridgetown. Police received a complaint of an attempted break-and-enter into a residence. The attempt occurred between midnight and 2:30 p.m. The garage door was pried open and a basement window was broken. There was no entry gained to the residence and nothing stolen. Neighborhood inquiries were conducted.
