EAST TORBROOK ROAD - A Torbrook home is badly damaged following a fire that broke out early in the evening Oct. 31.

Firefighters from Kingston, Middleton, Aylesford and Nictaux teamed up to tackle the stubborn blaze in a bungalow on East Torbrook Road shortly after the call for service came in at 6:11 p.m.

Kingston Fire Chief Watson Armstrong said it was difficult to access the interior of the home early on due to the origin of the fire.

“It appears to have started in the basement,” he said, providing a brief interview at the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m.

“I would say extensive damage, the living room floor is burnt through.”

Flames did spread to a section of roof at the far right side of the home at one point, but Watson said the firefighters were careful to tend to hotspots in the attic in addition to fighting the persistent flames that were visible from the picture window on the ground level of the home.

The occupants of the home were all safe and accounted for, Armstrong said.

The cause remains under investigation.
