CAMBRIDGE, N.S. – An 18-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a crash on Cambridge Road.
A grey, Pontiac Sunfire carrying three occupants collided with another vehicle and struck a power pole around 10:30 p.m. Aug. 4.
“Annapolis Valley RCMP Traffic Services were conducting a checkpoint on Highway 1 at Aylesford Road in Aylesford at 10:25 p.m. when this vehicle approached the checkpoint,” said Nova Scotia RCMP spokesperson Dal Hutchinson.
“The investigation at the checkpoint determined the driver was impaired. Upon direction of the officer to the driver to put the vehicle in park, the driver took off from the checkpoint.”
Police pursued the suspect’s vehicle in an attempt to have the driver pull over until it was no longer safe to do so, Hutchinson said.
“For approximately five minutes the officer attempted to have the car stop, however, the driver was driving in a dangerous manner, which posed a risk to public safety. The officer then disengaged the suspect vehicle,” he added.
“Approximately three minutes later, a second officer located the collision scene.”
No one was injured in the crash, and the driver did not attempt to flee the scene of the accident, Hutchinson said.
The driver is facing multiple charges, including impaired driving offences, failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and other infractions outlined in the Motor Vehicle Act.
RCMP are not releasing the name of the driver before the information is formally sworn in, Hutchinson said.
“More details would be available later in week as the investigation is continuing.”
