WOLFVILLE, NS – A commercial building with apartments units has sustained significant damage following a midnight fire Jan. 5 at 382 Main Street in Wolfville.
Wolfville fire chief Todd Crowell confirmed his department received the call at 12:06 a.m. this morning.
Mutual aid was provided by Greenwich and Hantsport fire departments.
The fire was kept to the building’s exterior and was extinguished within the first ten minutes.
Crews stayed on the scene for one hour and 30 minutes, ensuring the fire had not extended through the building, and cleaning up the area.
Significant damage was sustained to both stories of a rear corner of the building, as well as a vehicle on site.
“There was quite a bit of damage, but the building is still standing,” said Crowell.
No one was injured, and the tenants weren’t inside the apartments at the time of the fire.
Property owner John MacKay said things could definitely have been worse had the fire not been contained to one corner of the building, and had the tenants been home.
“The staircase leading up to the apartments will have to be rebuilt, along with one wall, but this is a 10 out of 10 in my books, because no one was hurt, and damage was minimal,” he said.
“Even so, we’ve got lots of work to get done before the tenants can move back in.”
Damage to the inside of the units was very minimal, and a car on the property belonging to a tenant also sustained some damage from the fire.
MacKay extended his thanks for the Wolfville fire fighters who responded so quickly to the fire.
