Little remains of an old home in Sweets Corner following a late night fire.

The home, located on the corner of Wentworth Road and Highway 14, went up in flames shortly after midnight Aug. 30.

Chief Scott Burgess, of the Windsor Fire Department, says the house was vacant at the time.

“No one lives there,” he said.

Passersby reported the flames at 12:26 a.m., Burgess added.

The fire was venting up through the roof and engulfing the front porch when firefighters arrived on scene, Burgess said.

He said the roof and second level of the century home had partially collapsed, making it harder for firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

The building is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department offered mutual aid at the scene, and the Hantsport Fire Department had a pumper and tanker on standby at Windsor’s station.
