Some students in Annapolis Royal won’t be going back to school until Sept. 8.
Renovations have continued at Annapolis West Education Centre (AWEC) in Annapolis Royal over the summer, but some timelines for renovations have been delayed, affecting the beginning of the school year for AWEC students.
The school is being renovated and reconfigured to become a Grade 6 to 12 school and will include students from the nearby ARRA.
The school office will open and be temporarily relocated to Annapolis Royal Regional Academy (ARRA) from Tuesday, Aug. 26 to Friday, Aug. 29, to allow AWEC gym floor refinishing to be completed. Administration, guidance and office staff will be available in person at ARRA and via the regular school office phone line, 902-532-3150, for student registration, course changes, and other related inquiries. Office operations return to AWEC Sept. 2
The first day of school for AWEC students is now Sept. 8. This will allow staff to prepare classrooms following the renovation work over the summer. School staff will report to work as scheduled Sept. 2.
“While this change may cause some inconvenience, AVRSB and AWEC administration thank the school community for their understanding and patience as this important work continues,” a media release said.
