Fines for impaired charges
Mary Irene Davison, of Hall’s Harbour, was in Kentville provincial court June 30 for sentencing on an April 16 charge of impaired driving, laid in Kentville. The 80-year-old entered a guilty plea and was fined $300 by the court, which also imposed a one-year driving prohibition.
The court handed Kelly Lynn Deal, 44, of Berwick a fine of $1,620 and an 18-month driving suspension during a June 30 court appearance in Kentville. Deal was charged with operating a vehicle with a blood/alcohol level above the legal limit on April 4 in Berwick. She entered a guilty plea to the charge and will be eligible for an interlock device after three months.
New Minas resident Nigel Raymond Upshaw, 29, appeared in Kentville provincial court June 30 for sentencing on an April 20 charge of impaired driving, laid in New Minas. Upshaw’s guilty plea netted him a fine of $1,560 and a one-year driving ban.
Jade Ellen Waite, 26, of Chipman Brook, was fined $1,300 and prohibited from driving for one year during a June 30 appearance in Kentville provincial court. Waite pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle with a blood/alcohol level above the legal limit on May 8 at West Glenmont, Kings County.
Robert Wayne Hunt, 46, of Kentville, was handed a curative discharge order and a driving ban of 18 months during a court appearance in Kentville July 3. Hunt entered a guilty plea to a charge of impaired driving, laid Dec. 7, 2013 in Kentville.
During a June 30 appearance in Kentville provincial court, Sean Jason Erskine, 34, of Greenwood, was handed a fine of $1,040 and a one-year driving ban after pleading guilty to a May 3 charge of operating a vehicle while disqualified.
After pleading guilty to breaching a court recognizance in February, Michael Joseph Frank, 38, of North Kentville, was handed a 30-day conditional sentence and 12 months of probation during a June 30 appearance in Kentville provincial court.
Probation for assault
Daniel Brown Halbrook, 33, of Kentville, was handed a conditional discharge and 12 months of probation during a June 30 court appearance in Kentville. He pleaded guilty to assault between Oct. 1, 2013 and Jan. 27, 2014 in Kentville.
Theft under $5,000
Marlana Lacey Hyrtle, 29, of Wolfville, appeared in Kentville provincial court June 30 for sentencing on charges of theft under $5,000 and breach of probation, laid April 6 in Kingston. She entered guilty pleas and was handed concurrent four-month conditional sentences and 12 months probation by the court.
Darren Phillip Leopold, 30, of Hants Border, Kings County was fined $650 during a June 30 appearance in Kentville provincial court after pleading guilty to a March 29 charge of possessing a firearm without a licence. The court also imposed a lifetime firearms ban and a firearms forfeiture order.
Waterville resident Stephen Wade Bezanson appeared in Kentville provincial court July 2 for sentencing on a charge of unlawful production of Cannabis, laid Jan. 30 in Waterville. Bezanson entered a guilty plea and was handed a $1,300 fine and 12 months of probation. He was also ordered to complete 10 hours of community service work and forfeit any offence-related property.
Fine, peace bond
During a July 2 appearance in Kentville provincial court, Gregory Cameron Lightfoot, 24, New Minas, was fined $250 for pleading guilty to a Nov. 16, 2103 charge of throwing an object at a vehicle. The accused also agreed to enter into a 12-month peace bond.
Meanwhile, South Berwick resident Benjamin Andrew Ian Robb, 27, was in Kentville provincial court July 2 for sentencing on a March 25, 2013 charge of mischief causing property damage under $5,000, laid in Canning.
Robb entered a guilty plea and was fined $150 and agreed to enter into a 12-month peace bond.
New Minas resident Jeffrey Edward Douglas Keddy, 22, was in Kentville court July 3 for sentencing on charges of sexual assault, breach of a recognizance and breach of probation.
Keddy entered guilty pleas to all charges and was sentenced to 90 days in custody on the assault charge and 30 days of concurrent custody on the two breaches. The court also ordered Keddy to comply with a lifetime order on a sex offender registry (SOIRA), a primary DNA order and one year of probation for the assault charge
