UPDATE: RCMP release name of teenager who died at Lumsden Dam

Police have released the name of the young man who died at Lumsden Dam Friday evening. 

Alex Kennedy Jones, 19, died July 4 after jumping into the water  of the bridge on Black River Road just before 5 p.m. 

Witnesses told police Jones, a Centreville resident, went into the water, came to the surface, but then went under again and didn't resurface. 

His body was located in the water by divers at 9:15 p.m that night.

The body of a missing teenaged swimmer has been found.

At 4:55 p.m., RCMP received a call that an 18-year-old had jumped off a bridge into the water off the Black River Road. He was last seen going into the water and came up to the surface, but went under again and did not surface.  

Local fire rescue teams and the RCMP were called to the Lumsden Dam area to search for the teen. A Ground Search and Rescue team also did a shoreline search.

It was the RCMP's Underwater Recovery Team that located the body.

Wolfville Fire Chief Kirk Fredericks said his department was called to the scene at about 5 p.m. Firefighters assisted the RCMP dive team in their activities. The body was recovered at around 9 p.m.

The matter remains under investigation.
