A report of a plane crash the Molega area of Queens County turned out to be a false alarm on Friday night.

Emergency crews spent several hours searching the Queens County area after a reported sighting of a plane going down.

RCMP received a call from someone who reported seeing a possible aircraft with smoke trailing behind it near Molega North, Queens County just before 9 p.m. on July 25.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area. RCMP checked the region and spoke with cottage owners in the area who said they didn't see an aircraft go down. Local airports also had no planes overdue or missing.

RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alain LeBlanc said police believe the reports were a result of flares being set off at a party in the area.
