Thunderstorms in Queens cause for warnings and cancellations

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Queens County according to Environment Canada.

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing torrential rain.

  At 11.30 a.n. radar detected several areas of heavy rain over Queens. High rainfall rates could lead to amounts in the 25 to 50mm range over a period of one to two hours.

According to the website The Weather Network (, several lightning strikes have already been reported in North Queens and in near Kejimkujik National Park.

At around 11:30 a.m. the Region of Queens announced that swimming lessons are canceled at the North Queens Aquatic Centre.  Anyone with questions regarding the cancellation can phone 682-2009.
