A Long Point Road resident is facing charges of assault, uttering threats and weapons-related charges following an armed standoff.

Keith Allen Brothers, 58, was released from custody following an appearance in Kentville provincial court on July 21. Brothers has been released on a recognizance with a $1,000 surety provided by Cody Kenneally. The matters have been adjourned to Sept. 15 for plea.

Brothers is charged with assault; uttering a death threat, pointing a firearm without lawful excuse, possessing a firearm for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, and possessing a firearm without the necessary licence.

Shortly before noon on July 20, RCMP arrested a 58-year-old man who police had been looking for in connection with a standoff the night before in Ogilvie. The man was arrested without incident at a Long Point Road residence.

Around 4:55 p.m. on July 19, RCMP received a report of an assault on a female on Long Point Road. Police said the victim was able to escape with non-life threatening injuries. Roads were blocked in the area, as police were led to believe the man was still in the house and that he might have a weapon.

An RCMP emergency response team entered the home around 9 p.m. They found and seized a weapon but the man was not present.
