It’s alleged that the brothers committed the offences in Canning and Sunken Lake on June 10 and 11.

Kings RCMP received a report of two stolen vehicles from Canning that occurred overnight on June 11. One of vehicles was spotted on Highway 101 near Wolfville at 10 a.m. travelling at a high rate of speed. It was spotted a short time later driving dangerously in a school zone.

Shortly afterwards, a vehicle crash was reported on Sunken Lake Road. The vehicle involved was a 2001 Saturn stolen from the Canning area the night before. The keys of the car had been left in the cup holder.

The two Canning area brothers were arrested in relation to the stolen vehicles and a string of thefts from vehicles. A third brother, age 20, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Kings RCMP began receiving complaints of vehicle break-ins in the Canning area on June 10. On June 11 at 4:07 a.m., a suspicious car was noted and someone was spotted going through a vehicle. A truck parked at a business was reported stolen and there was a report of an attempt to gain entry into another vehicle.

On June 11 at 9:32 a.m., some items were reported stolen from another unlocked vehicle. Later, six more similar reports came to police.

Kodey Melvin is also charged with willfully damaging an individual’s property to a value not exceeding $5,000 in Canning on Feb. 23, 2013. This matter has been adjourned to Aug. 11 for disposition. He also faces charges of assault causing bodily harm and uttering a threat to cause death or bodily harm in Canning on Nov. 19, 2013. Melvin pleaded not guilty to these charges on Jan. 27 and they were adjourned to Aug. 12 for trial.
