Jail time for sexual assault
Norman Frederic Greeno, 69, of Bramber, has been sentenced to jail time for committing a sexual assault.
Greeno changed his plea to guilty on Sept. 15 and the matter was adjourned to Oct. 16 for sentencing. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Greeno to four months in custody. The court granted a primary DNA order and imposed a 10-year Sex Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA) order against Greeno.
Greeno committed the offence in Bramber between May 1 and June 10, 2016. A charge of sexual exploitation was dismissed.
Time deemed served, probation
Gregory James Ward, 37, of New Minas, has been sentenced to time deemed served and probation for uttering a threat to cause bodily harm or death; the included offence of assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, failing to comply with an undertaking and unlawfully entering a house with intent to commit an indictable offence therein.
Ward pleaded guilty to the charge of uttering a threat in March. The matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. He was originally charged with aggravated assault but pleaded guilty in June to the included offence of assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, the undertaking charge and the charge of unlawfully entering a house with intent. The matters were adjourned for sentencing.
Judge Alan Tufts sentenced Ward to one day deemed served by his appearance in court and 18 months of probation on each of the four charges, to be served concurrently. Ward was fined a total of $500 in victim surcharges. The court granted a primary DNA order and imposed a mandatory 10-year firearm prohibition in relation to the charge of assault with a weapon causing bodily harm.
Ward committed the offences in Kentville on Jan. 22 and March 3. Another count of uttering a threat to cause bodily harm or death; a charge of mischief and a charge of attempting to render a woman unconscious by choking her with his hands with intent to enable himself to commit the indictable offence of assault causing bodily harm were withdrawn on Oct. 16.
Conditional sentence with house arrest
Sonia Dawn Bruce, 29, of Waterville, has been handed a conditional sentence order with house arrest and has been sentenced to probation for two counts of failing to comply with probation, two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and failing to attend court as required.
Bruce pleaded guilty or changed her pleas to guilty to the undertaking and probation charges on July 12. The matters were adjourned to Oct. 18 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Bruce pleaded guilty to failing to attend court prior to her sentencing on Oct. 18.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Bruce a 45-day conditional sentence order with house arrest for the entire time and sentenced Bruce to 12 months of probation on the five charges.
Bruce committed the offences in Waterville on Sept. 10, 2016, and July 11, 2017; and in Berwick on Oct. 14, 2016.
A charge of uttering a threat to cause bodily harm or death, five more counts of failing to comply with probation and another count of failing to comply with her undertaking were dismissed or withdrawn on Oct. 18.
Carried weapon, undertaking offence
Dennis Matthew McEachern, 43, of no fixed address, has been fined for carrying a weapon, a knife, for a purpose dangerous to the public peace and failing to comply with an undertaking.
McEachern pleaded guilty to the charges on July 12. The matters were adjourned to Oct. 18 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced McEachern to 12 months of probation and fined him a total of $130 for failing to comply with an undertaking and fined him a total of $78 carrying a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
McEachern committed the offences in Waterville on Sept. 10, 2016, and on July 11, 2017.
Another count of failing to comply with an undertaking, a charge of failing to attend court as required and a charge of knowingly conveying a threat to cause bodily harm or death were withdrawn or dismissed on Oct. 18.
Impaired driving
Michael Joseph Floris, 55, of Aylesford, has been fined for operating a motor vehicle while his ability to operate was impaired by alcohol or a drug.
Floris pleaded guilty to the charge on Oct. 19. Judge Alan Tufts fined him a total of $1,495 and imposed a one-year driving prohibition against him.
Floris committed the offence in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on Feb. 25, 2017.
Possessed firearm without licence
Andrew Ryan Bowie, 33, of Windsor, has been fined for possessing a Maverick pump shotgun without holding the necessary licence.
Bowie pleaded guilty to the charge on Oct. 17. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Bowie a total of $130 and imposed a one-year firearm prohibition against him. The court granted a forfeiture order for the shotgun.
Bowie committed the offence in Windsor on Aug. 9. A charge of storing a pump shotgun without a trigger lock, thereby contravening the Storage, Display, Transportation and Handling of Firearms by Individuals Regulations, was withdrawn.
Fined for Fisheries Act offences
Jun Yao Liang, 48, of Halifax, has been fined for catching and retaining more stripped bass than the specified aggregate quota of one per day and for catching and retaining three stripped bass less than the specified minimum length.
Liang was present in Kentville provincial court with an interpreter on Oct. 16. He changed his pleas to guilty on the two charges. Judge Alan Tufts fined Liang $300 on each count, for a total of $600 in fines. Liang consented to forfeiting a tackle box, two fishing rods and a broken fishing rod.
Liang committed the offences in Grand Pre on Oct. 26, 2016. A charge of purchasing, selling or possessing stripped bass caught in contravention of the Maritime Provincial Fishing Regulations was dismissed.
Fine, conditional discharge
Raymond Patrick Weaver, 28, of Greenwood, has been fined for failing to drive or operate a motor vehicle in a careful and prudent manner and has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for failing to attend court in accordance with a summons.
Weaver maintained a not guilty plea to an original charge under the Criminal Code of dangerous driving causing bodily harm but pleaded guilty on Oct. 13 to failing to drive or operate a motor vehicle in a careful and prudent manner under the Motor Vehicle Act. Weaver also pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to attend court.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Weaver a total of $1,272.50 for failing to drive in a careful and prudent manner. The court imposed a one-week drivers licence suspension, to be in effect from Dec. 24 to 31. The original charge of dangerous driving causing bodily harm was dismissed. Weaver was handed a conditional discharge with one year of probation, including 60 hours of community service work, for failing to attend court.
Weaver committed the offences in Aylesford on July 31, 2010, and in Kentville on Feb. 8, 2012.
