THREE MILE PLAINS, N.S. – A residential structure on the 200 block of Mountain Road in Three Mile Plains lies in ruins following an early morning fire on Sept. 30.
Firefighters from Brooklyn, Hantsport and Windsor worked together to contain the fire – but the structure was fully involved when they arrived. The call came in around 1:30 a.m.
Luckily, nobody inside the home was injured. However, one firefighter was injured by an electrical shock during the response and taken to the hospital.
George Pineo, deputy chief with the Brooklyn Fire Department said they could see the fire from some distance as they were heading to the scene.
By the time they crested the hill, it was fully involved.
"We were mostly dealing with hotspots after we got the fire under control," Pineo said. "A neighbouring building had its siding melting on it, so we had to put exposure protection in place for that."
Pineo said a firefighter was taken to hospital after he "received a mild case of electrocution."
"It was a little shocking," he said.
Nova Scotia Power arrived to disconnect the power shortly after the incident.
The firefighter was released from the hospital a few hours after, with no major injuries.
"We send our members to the hospital whenever something like that happens, just to ensure that they're safe," he said.
Firefighters wrapped up at the scene around 5:30 a.m.
Pineo said there's no word on what the cause of the fire could be and that the Fire Marshal isn't expected to conduct an investigation.
"The fire marshal's office isn't attending, from the amount of damage that was done, it'd be very hard to find what was the cause," he said.
