LIVERPOOL – Country fans will be in for a treat this June, when Queens County hosts its next big name performers.
The Washboard Union is set to headline at Queens Place Emera Centre in Liverpool on June 15. The show will start at 7:30 p.m., music fans heard in a Jan. 24 announcement.
“They are now taking the stage with Old Dominion. They have previously shared the stage with Zac Brown Band and Keith Urban and played a lead performing role at the 2017 CCMAs in Saskatoon,” said Steve Burns, manager of events, promotions and sponsorship for the Region of Queens Municipality.
Burns also announced the opening act.
“So leading off this event, I am pleased to announce we have a local talent, from Middlefield, Queens County, special guest, South Shore Idol winner 2017, our very own Miss Autumn Rae Carver.”
People who filled the lobby at Queens Place cheered and clapped. Burns said he was looking forward to seeing what Carver would bring to the stage.
Burns then announced the opening act as Jason Benoit, from Fox Island River, NL. Benoit has opened for Kenny Chesney, and the Canadian Country Music Association considers him one of Canada’s “bright young country stars.”
During the announcement, Mayor David Dagley took the podium and thanked everyone in attendance as well as those who tuned in on Facebook live.
“It is great to see support here from our business community and from residents as well,” he said. “Your councillors and I are very excited to be here today to deliver the news on what promises to be the concert of the year.”
Tickets and seating
Burns said people could start getting their tickets at 1 p.m. on Jan. 24. Prices start at $45.
Meaghan Roberts, director of recreation and healthy communities, said there would be a new floor plan for June’s concert.
“We have new theatre-style seating, which will be available on the floor,” she said. “That means the outer seats are angled towards the stage.”
Roberts said the floor seating at the concert would be for people aged 19 and older, and identification would be required.
“Anyone seated on the floor will have the option to partake in an on-floor beverage service by means of separate floor bars,” she said.
In the upper bowl, on the north side, there will be seating for all ages.
