Attempted murder and firearms charges laid in Yarmouth County incident

YARMOUTH, N.S. – RCMP in Yarmouth have charged two men with attempted murder and numerous firearms charges following an incident that happened in Quinan, Yarmouth County.

According to an RCMP media release, on March 18, Yarmouth Rural RCMP responded to a firearms complaint on Hwy. 308 at 7:55 p.m. The complaint indicated that four males, one of whom fired shots from a rifle, were threatening another man at a home.

The RCMP say the four men fled the scene and set two vehicles on fire. Two men and a male youth have been arrested by the RCMP, while a fourth man was arrested on another unrelated matter. The victim in this matter was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

"I think the shots were fired through a door and I don't know if the injuries were a result of pieces of wood that came off the door or the shot itself,"  said RCMP Corporal Jennifer Clarke.

Christopher Leo Jacquard, 36, of Quinan, has been charged with Attempted Murder, Discharging a Firearm with Intent, Careless Use of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm for a Dangerous Purpose, Uttering Threats, Assault, and Arson. Jacquard was arrested on March 23, and he was remanded into custody. It’s expected he will appear in court on Monday.

Jason Paul Morris, 41, of Quinan, has been charged with Attempted Murder, Pointing a Firearm, Uttering Threats, and Assault. Morris was arrested on March 19 and was remanded into custody. He returns to Yarmouth Provincial Court on Monday, March 26.

A 17-year-old male youth from Yarmouth County has been charged with Assault and Uttering Threats.

The youth was arrested on March 21 and has been released to appear in Yarmouth Court on May 7.

fourth person who was arrested was charged on an unrelated incident, but no charges were laid relating to this incident, said Corporal Clarke.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
