LIVERPOOL – A number of people enjoyed the first day of summer celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day.
The festivities took place at the Native Council of Nova Scotia in Liverpool on June 21. The day’s events began with a welcome and a singing of the Mi’kmaq Honour Song. Activities included dancing, drumming, storytelling, face painting and crafts.
“This is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples,” promoted the Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada website.
