A former secretary at Northeast Kings Education Centre has pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing more than $5,000 from the Canning school.

Jacqueline Elizabeth Rhynard, 53, of Coldbrook, was charged last May. An Annapolis Valley Regional School Board audit of finances at the school completed last March showed financial irregularities. The Kings District RCMP was called to investigate.

The investigation determined that thefts occurred over a four-year period. Rhynard is accused of theft from the school between March 1, 2009, and Jan. 31, 2013.

Rhynard pleaded not guilty to the charge on July 15, 2013.

The matter was adjourned for trial but Rhynard changed her plea to guilty on April 7. Judge Claudine MacDonald has adjourned the matter to June 25 for sentencing.
