Spring weight restrictions on Nova Scotia roads beginning March 10

Spring road restrictions are expected to begin March 10.

The provincial Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal is monitoring air and road temperatures, a press release said Feb. 27.

Because the restrictions have a significant impact on the trucking industry, the department strives to provide as much advance notice as possible.

The department works closely with the trucking industry and Environment Canada to determine a date that will best protect road surfaces while giving sufficient notice to truckers, the statement said.

Weight restrictions are necessary during the spring thaw to help protect roads that are weakened by mild and wet weather. When weight restrictions are imposed, a list of roads that are exempt will be published in newspapers across the province.
