Dr. Pejman Nourian, the new family physician who started in Digby in November, is preparing to accept the next installment of 100 patients.

Dr. Nourian’s office will accept new patients by phone between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31.

The number to call at that time is 902-245-3025.

Dr. Nourian holds a defined license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.  Dr. John Black will be his physician mentor and supervisor and Dr. Alenia Kysela, district Chief of Staff and VP Medicine, will be his sponsor.

Doctors Nourian, Black and Marek Bander are now the only practising family physicians in Digby.

South West Health expects that Dr. Nourian will be able to accept a maximum of 1000 patients over time.

South West Health spokesperson Fraser Mooney says they expect Dr. Nourian will have about 400 patients by the end of January.

Last fall Dr. Nourian accepted the most critical patients from Dr. Lafkovici’s practice.

South West Health opened a phone line for registering 100 new patients on Dec. 12 last year – again they set side a two-hour window for calls, but they reached 100-patient mark in the first hour.

South West said in a press release on Monday, Jan. 20 that they are are proud to work with local municipal governments, community organizations and the Department of Health and Wellness on recruitment efforts.

South West Health says they will schedule another period “at a later date” for accepting  new patients.

They will send that announcement to local local media and will post it on the South West Health website.
